Gunnison Mural and Sculptures
Located in the heart of Gunnison, Colorado - a small mountain town nestled in the Gunnison Valley, off highway 50, the Gunnison mural looms large over IOOF Park. The mural features 16 local plant species, 10 birds and mammal species, and 9 butterfly and bee species common to the Gunnison Valley. It also includes depictions of popular recreational actives in the area, as well as a nod to ever important ranching community in Gunnison.
Other features of the mural wall include 3D elements; each of the butterflies and bees are constructed of painted steel and stand off the wall in low relief, plus 4 plaques with QR codes that allow visitors to scan the codes and bring up webpages that tell about the different species in on the wall, along with activities to do in the Gunnison and Crested Butte areas.
Location: Gunnison, Colorado Size: 61ft x 18ft mural and three 6ft sculptures Completed summer or 2022 The Gunnison Mural Project was designed by Amie Jacobsen, but the actual painting process was a collaboration between Amie Jacobsen and Will Barker. Will is an accomplished mural artist out of Denver, Colorado and is responsible for painting the larger portion of the mural itself, with Amie painting the plants and animals and creating the metalwork. It was a true team effort! Please check out Will Barkers work @ https://www.willbarkerart.com/
