In the Shadow of Giants

In the Shadow of Giants was created to honor the life and legacy of Beth Houlihan who was the first city gardener and landscape specialist for the City of Gladstone, MO.

Inspired by one of Beth’s favorite flowers and her favorite color, the larger-than-life stainless steel daisies with brilliant orange cast-glass centers form a canopy over the walkway into the dog park at Happy Rock Park— a site chosen for Beth’s love of dogs. As the sun moves across the sculpture, the daisies cast shifting shadows on the walkway below. They reflect the idea that a life lived with a big heart can cast an influence far beyond itself — touching family, friends, a community, and even people we may never know. Beth’s life clearly cast a long shadow, and that lasting influence inspired the title, In the Shadow of Giants.
