Flower Power New York Botanical Garden, 2026 Created for the New York Botanical Garden's garden-wide Flower Power exhibition, this series of large-scale sculptural installations celebrates the optimism, creativity, and handmade visual language of the 1960s Flower Power movement. Installed throughout the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory, the work draws inspiration from psychedelic poster art, festival culture, flowers as symbols of peace and unity, and the era's enduring sense of hope and imagination. The installation consists of three primary sculptural elements.
At its center is Flower Power, a monumental illuminated sculpture installed within the conservatory's central pool.
Nearby, Daisy Lamp rises nearly 12 feet tall, featuring multicolored illuminated petals surrounding a translucent globe-like center. Within the globe, a slowly rotating analog lighting mechanism projects shifting daisy-shaped shadows, creating a mesmerizing effect reminiscent of the glow and movement of a lava lamp.
Suspended above a pedestrian walkway, Flower Shower spans approximately 15 feet wide. White-painted aluminum flower forms with hand-painted acrylic centers float overhead, while colorful steel daisies descend from the canopy below, creating the sensation of flowers drifting through space. Constructed from steel, aluminum, acrylic, paint, and integrated lighting, the installations transform graphic imagery associated with the Flower Power era into immersive three-dimensional environments. Through color, light, scale, and movement, the work invites visitors to experience flowers as symbols of joy, peace, creativity, and human connection.
